7 cases on file where the dispute turned on where the player lives. In five, Stake let a player sign up and deposit from a place its terms exclude: France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Ontario in Canada and the US.

A sixth player says a court in Curaçao, where Stake is licensed, ordered it to repay money lost while playing from a banned country. That case ended unresolved, with lawyers on both sides.

Only one case, about 60 Canadian dollars, ended with the player paid. 4 were rejected.

In the Swedish case, the mediator agreed the sign-up should have been blocked, but wouldn't ask for money lost in normal play to be refunded.

• Check the casino's list of restricted countries before your first deposit — being let in doesn't mean you're allowed to play.
• Register with your real country and the address on your documents; a mismatch ended two of these cases.
• Don't use a VPN or a mirror link to get around a block, even if support offers one.
• Don't expect losses back — mediators turned down all three claims here for money lost while playing from a banned country.
