What Happened
A player says Stake blocked their account after they asked to withdraw more than they had deposited, with $5,400 inside. They sent a selfie with ID, then proof of address, which they say was rejected several times before steps 3 and 4 were finally passed. The player says Stake then stopped answering emails and later told them it would not pay.
How It Developed
- Complaint opened. The player said the account was opened in October 2022 and had four deposits and two withdrawals before the block.
- Stake said the player had already complained to the regulator and that it was dealing with the regulator directly.
- AskGamblers asked the player to confirm whether a regulator complaint had been filed.
- The player said they wrote to three bodies. One said Stake was outside its reach, one could only help UK players, and one never answered.
- AskGamblers closed the case as unresolved because no deal was reached, and lowered Stake's rating on its site. It said it would update the case if the regulator ruled.
Unresolved
No deal was reached, and Stake said it was handling the matter with the regulator. No payout of the $5,400 is shown.
What Has (and Hasn't) Helped
Nothing worked. Once the player had gone to a regulator, Stake chose to deal only with the regulator, and the mediator could not settle it. Bear in mind that filing with a regulator first may end the casino's talks with the mediator.
